RESTORE Belize and several other organisations partnered with Precinct 1 for a successful Christmas party on Christmas Eve 2013.
In March this year, the Belize Police Department divided Belize City into four Precincts with each being responsible for a specific area. Precinct 1 located on Euphrates street responds to the area starting at the foot of the Belcan bridge leading up Central American Boulevard to Port Authority with all the waters on the shore along Southern Foreshore along the Southern side of the river back to Belcan bridge. This includes all streets and alleys. Community Police in the precincts work throughout the year with the community to reduce crime through building meaningful dialogue with schools, businesses and homes. Families are also referred to other agencies for help meeting basic necessities.
On this specific day, the police catered to 140 children with each receiving a substantial meal, a party-bag and toy. Also in the spirit of Christmas the children were treated to face-painting by artist Andrea Yacab and Jonkunoo dancers from the Ugundani Dance Troupe fresh from their award winning performance at the Habinahan Wanaragua junior competition.
